NoMa Run Club Newsletter: June Edition
Swampy Summer June Jog Journeys
Hi runners! Welcome to our fourth edition of the NoMa Run Club (NRC) newsletter.
May brought back the swampy humidity and mosquitoes, but the more exciting news is that the pandas have announced their return to the National Zoo! May also marks election season in DC, and if you're a registered independent who can't vote during the primaries but still wants your voice heard, take a look at Initiative #83. Additionally, after five years of sitting empty, the RFK stadium has been cleared for demolition by the National Park Service.
In May, several runners participated in the Capitol Hill Classic 10k, Taylor M. competed against Supreme Court justices, Carl B. moved back to NoMa, and after Memorial Day we changed the Saturday run’s start time back to 8 AM to beat the heat.
With the Summer officially kicking off, we want to take this time to congratulate our NoMa Run Club founders Liz S. and August B. on getting married this month. Wishing you many years and miles of running and riding together!

NoMA MoMA: Monthly Member Awareness
Not only does Francis Escaler have the coolest hats, he is also a reliable member of the mushroom and onion pizza crew and an overall great guy. Francis has also helped organize events like our trail run, where he DJed at the post run picnic - Kayleigh Hasson.

Why did you join NoMa run club?
My brother recommended joining a run club to help with training and meet cool people and he was right! I've set many PRs and met many cool people after joining NRC
Current running goal?
I hope to one day run a full marathon, maybe the marine corps
What do you do when you’re not running?
During the day I work at a nonprofit that promotes mental health awareness to youth and young adults. I love snowboarding and cycling and from time to time I DJ deep and melodic house music.
Anything else you want to share?
If you want to throw a party or event and like house music let's talk!

Capitol Hill Classic - Sunday, May 19
A group of run club members met up the night before their 10K race to cheer on the Washington Spirit (they won 4-2 against Angel City) and fuel up with some brews at Dacha.
Top row from L to R: Surya, Diane, Chris B.
Bottom row: Antonio, Diego, Andrea, Allegra, and Anthony S.
If you ever want to organize a team event, watch a sports game, or do something non-running related with NRC members, feel free to post in the Discord!
NRC runners met up for a group photo before the race. Huge shout out to Anthony S., Chris B., Kayleigh H., and other members of the squad for cheering us on.
This fast, mostly flat, race through the Capitol Hill neighborhood is a fun run to do. DC families lined the streets outside their homes to cheer everyone on. Congrats to all the runners who participated and PR’d in this course! The energy and atmosphere were unmatched. If you missed out this year be sure to sign up next year.
