NoMa Run Club Newsletter: November Edition

Hi runners! Welcome to the November Edition of the NoMa Run Club (NRC) newsletter!

October brought us several warm days—great for logging extra miles, though a little worrying to have such warm weather this late in the year! This month, we came out strong to cheer on a big group of our runners who tackled the 10K, marathon, and 50K at the Marine Corps Marathon, and we had not one, but two, Halloween-themed runs 🎃.

In October, if you took the Metro at NoMa station, you helped make it the busiest month EVER (we are so back). Meanwhile, if you rely on driving, you’ve probably noticed how bad traffic is…because traffic is now just as bad as it was pre-pandemic (we are so back). And with some really warm fall days lately, we've seen the longest stretch between 80-degree days on record. But the best news of all: the pandas are back!!!

And finally, mark your calendars for our third annual Anniversary Party coming up on December 7th—more details below!

NoMA MoMA: Monthly Member Awareness

When I’m not in training for long run/bike miles, I really like being able to make a Saturday morning run with NRC. Molly Hoeg is someone who has been a consistent Saturday runner and I’ve always thought her yoga practice would make a great pairing with running. Namasta Running club??? - Adrian Vega

Why did you join NoMa Run Club?
I joined NoMa Run Club because my younger sister was moving to DC and wanted to find a way to meet people. I had recently gotten back into running after a 5 year hiatus and thought that this sounded like a good way to be social and active! After one Saturday run I fell in love with the community and I'm still hooked!

Favorite running route in DC?
My favorite running route in DC is the Christmas tree route that was mapped out by Carl! I know we only do it once a year, but it is such a fun way to see all of the big Christmas trees in the city. It's the only time you'll see me at run club on a Monday night (I am very much a morning runner).

What do you do when you’re not running?
When I'm not running, I still strive to be active. I love yoga and hiking- preferably with my dog. I also enjoy my old lady hobbies like crocheting, baking and playing with my 4 cats. When I'm not hobby-ing, I am busy with my dog hiking business (Happy Hikers), teaching yoga, or doing home improvement projects with my husband, Nick.

How did you get into yoga?
My love for yoga started when I took my first class at 16 years old. Although I didn't practice daily until 2020, I always felt myself drawn to the wave of calm that yoga brings me. I wanted to go deeper in my practice so completed my first teacher training during covid, and found connection with other teachers online. This helped to fuel my practice and showed me that consistency and determination really do pay off. I never intended on teaching, but I found that I absolutely love sharing this practice with others. You can find me teaching at Bluebird Sky Yoga in Brookland and Flow Well Yoga in Union Market- I usually post my teaching schedule on my Instagram (@MollyMakesShapes).
